Just to show that I haven't ignored the new project because I can't let go of the old, here is the D&AD competition I've chosen, Batiste Dry Shampoo package design. It's essentially a graphic design brief but I enjoyed the packaging project last year, so why not! They ask that four new bottles each to suit three sizes and a website is designed. Their bottles are highly patterned, so I've been looking at different patterns and also at groups of four such as earth wind fire and water, four seasons etc.
I've been looking at the patterns of different countries, such as aboriginal art, Indian henna, and Japanese silk.
I've been playing around with the scent organ idea but decided I didn't like it - didn't suit the image style. My other one is "there... lay Lenina, fast asleep". I like the idea of this one, but struggling to work out the best composition. I'd like to put Lenina at a different angle but as the image style is very flat, that wouldn't work as well as profile. (I'm supposed to be leaving this project behind now and starting the next one, no chance, I can't let something go - I'm too obsessive, that's why it's taken so long!)
I just thought I'd add some of the thumbnail sketches to show how I got my final(ish) geometric mushrooms sketch and how I'm getting on with the others.
