This is the image I'm working on now. I have some thumbnail sketches and a lot of photographic reference of Roman Houses, pig sheds, apple trees and much more! I've been looking at Japanese woodblock prints too because of the beautiful way they describe rain. I shall be attempting that shortly! Looking at it at the moment it looks a little bit like a prison, rather than a cosy home, but when it's finished it won't be quite so imposing in the foreground. I may even face up to the colour saturation phobia I seem to have developed during this project, and give the windows more of a glow. Incidentally, the images being shaped like slices of bread is intentional. It's picking up on the theme in the book of bread, the country being Panem, (Latin for bread) and each district having their own bread etc. One of the main characters is a baker's son and the first time he and the main character become aware of each other's existence is over some bread. |
