I wasn't sure at this point what I was going to do with all the building shapes I'd done, I was just generally trying to get a feel for what the place might look like based on descriptions in the book - the city was brightly coloured like candy and there is a Roman theme. I like the shapes of the adjacent buildings and I can see where they've drawn their reference from (Roman pillars). This was the point where I couldn't think of anything to do further, so returned to research again. |

It took me a while to decide which book I wanted to do for this project. There were a few factors, it was suggested I do a contemporary book, and I wanted it to be thought provoking. Also futuristic or sci-fi helps when illustrating because it leaves scope for the imagination. I wrote a big list of possible books, including suggestions from others and then began eliminating them. The Hunger Games seems to fit the requirements, so I read the three books as quickly as possible and decided that yes, I could have a go at illustrating it. It had some good descriptions, some thought provoking themes and some references to other culture to draw inspiration from. Unfortunately after this I was unable to use the internet for two weeks as I was away, and that hindered research a lot, so I started designing anyway. I had mixed feedback but decided to take a step back and do some thorough research. I've been experimenting a little more so I'll include some pictures of my research and some samples of the experiments
